Moon in Aries

Moon in Aries means your feelings arrive at full strength and leave almost as quickly. You feel safe when you can act on what you feel, and you settle by doing something, not by talking it over.

The Moon in a chart is the emotional self: what you need, how you rest, what you do when you're upset. In Aries, the first sign of the zodiac and a fire sign, that self moves first and asks questions afterwards.

The flare and the clear sky

An Aries Moon snaps. You slam a cupboard, say the sharp thing, and ten minutes later you're asking what's for dinner. You mean it when you say it's over, because for you it is. The people around you are still rattled, and they don't understand how you got to calm so fast.

Rest, for you, involves movement. A run, a long walk at a punishing pace, scrubbing the bathroom with real anger in your arms. Sitting still with a bad feeling is the hardest thing anyone can ask of you. You'd rather pick a fight with a jar lid.

As a child you needed to be allowed to do it yourself. The toddler who pushed the spoon away and said "me" is an Aries Moon in miniature. You needed adults who could take your temper without punishing you for having one, and who let you try things before you were ready.

What the speed costs you

Anger is the feeling you're fluent in, so the slower ones get translated into it. Sadness, fear, loneliness: these sit still, and sitting still feels unsafe, so you turn them into irritation, which at least moves. The people close to you end up responding to the irritation and never meet the feeling underneath it.

You also find it hard to ask for comfort. Needing someone feels like losing a race. You'll fix the leak yourself at midnight before you'll call a friend, and then feel quietly hurt that nobody offered.

The honest work for an Aries Moon is noticing that the person you snapped at hasn't moved on yet, and staying with them for a minute longer than feels natural.

How the rest of your chart changes it

The Moon changes sign every two and a half days, so you need your birth date, and ideally your time, to be sure it's in Aries. Our notes on charts without a birth time explain how close to the edge yours is.

With the Sun in Aries too, you were born near a new Moon, and the drive and the feelings point the same way. An earth or water Sun slows the flare down and gives you somewhere to put it. With Aries rising as well, people see the temper before they see anything else. Read more about what the Moon sign covers.

Questions

Is Moon in Aries rare?

No. The Moon spends about two and a half days in every sign each month, so all twelve Moon signs are about equally common over time.

Are Aries Moons angry people?

They're quick, not cruel. The temper is real and loud, and it also burns out faster than in almost any other Moon sign. Grudges are rare.

What does an Aries Moon need from a partner?

Directness and room. An Aries Moon wants someone who'll say what's wrong plainly, who won't be frightened off by a raised voice, and who won't hover.
