Why some Mars signs are more common

Mars usually moves through a sign in six or seven weeks. But about every 26 months it turns retrograde, appearing to stop and back up for two months or so, and around those times it can stay in one sign for six months or more. Everyone born in that stretch shares the same Mars, so a Mars sign can be very common in one year and rare in the next.

That's also why you can't work out your Mars sign from a list of dates the way you can a sun sign. The calculator uses Mars's actual path for the year you were born.
