A free moon phase widget for your website
Put tonight's Moon on your own site. The widget draws the Moon as it looks right now, says what phase it's in and how much of it is lit, and names the next full moon with its date in your visitor's own time zone. It updates by itself, there's nothing to install, and it's free.
How to add it
Choose dark or light to match your site, and North or South for which way up the Moon should be drawn. Then copy the code and paste it into your page wherever HTML is allowed: a custom HTML block in WordPress, an embed block in Squarespace or Wix, or straight into your template. The widget is 340 pixels wide and shrinks to fit narrow columns.
Please keep the small credit line under it. It's how other people find the full calendar.
What it shows
The phase comes from the same ephemeris we use for birth charts: every new moon, quarter and full moon worked out to the minute, with the phase in between measured from them. The percentage is how much of the Moon's face is lit as seen from Earth. The full moon's name follows the North American almanac tradition, with the Harvest Moon falling nearest the September equinox. Every date and time is shown in your visitor's own time zone.
For every full and new moon this year and next, with a calendar you can subscribe to, see the full moon calendar. To find the phase you were born under, try your birth moon phase.

Questions
Is the moon phase widget free?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no key and no limit. Paste the code and it works.
Does it slow my page down?
No. It loads in its own small frame, only when a visitor scrolls near it, and it doesn't set cookies or track your visitors.
Why does the Moon look flipped in the Southern Hemisphere?
From south of the equator you see the Moon the other way up, so a waxing moon is lit on the left. Pick South and the widget draws it that way.
